Former US President Barack Obama accused the ruling Republicans of attacking democracy. During a speech at the funeral of civil rights activist John Lewis, Obama said the administration was attacking the right to vote with surgical precision and called for broad reforms.
The “those in power are doing their best to discourage citizens from voting, closing polling stations, targeting minorities and students with restrictive laws and attacking the right to more surgical accuracy of the vote”, Obama said.
Lewis lost his life as a result of cancer at 80, early in the month. He was one of six greats in terms of civil activism, along with Martin Lutherking and helped organize the 1963 historic march in Washington.
In our hard-tempered Egypt at a city church in Atlanta, former President Obama also attacked his successor for police violence against colored people and the crackdown on peaceful protests.
Obama stressed the role of postal service in elections held amid the coronary pandemic. Earlier than Thursday, Trump suggested delaying the vote and said without citing evidence that the postal vote could be affected by manipulation. While giving the homage to Lewis, the former White House head said he had become the first colored president of the United States just because of the Congressman's war for black Americans. /A2 CNN
