The new research concludes that one in ten patients who lose these feelings may be left without them.
Researchers collected their data from Italian patients and found that 49 percent had fully restored their sense of smell or taste after the virus recovered. This, while only 40 per cent reported improvements, while 10 per cent said their symptoms had deteriorated.
To date, some 51,000 people have lost their lives in the world.
