French President Emmanuel Macron named French civil servant Jean Catex on Friday, who has drafted anti-commercil measures' policies as the new prime minister, within a government update.
The republic's “president has named Jean Castex as prime minister and has mandated him to establish a” government, the presidency said in a brief statement.
Prime Minister Edward Philip and his entire government resigned on Friday, while Macron's party failed to achieve satisfactory results in last weekend's local elections, and the president is preparing to address the economic crisis caused by the coronary pandemic.
Observers named it a political bet for Macron to replace Edward Philipp, who in the polls was even more popular than the president himself.
