Kosovo's Tax Administration has clarified the situation created in the Kosovo Post, which it blocks from accounts due to debt.
The ATK through a status has clarified that every action of it is in line with the provisions of the Taxation Legislation, suggested that, in any other case, Kosovo Post, by March 10th through the official letter, it has been warned of strained measures (locking bank accounts) that would be taken in case of no debt payment within 10 days.
This is the full announcement:
The Kosovo Tax Administration, with the aim of correct information of public opinion, finds it reasonable to respond to the communiqué for the media date 23.07.2020 of the Kosovo Post. In this media communiqué, the Kosovo Post announces the opinion through the media of the Republic of Kosovo that the Kosovo Tax Administration without any warning has blocked the bank accounts of this public enterprise yesterday.
ATK, after considering that any of its actions are in line with the tax legislation provisions, suggested that both in any other case and in the concrete case Kosovo Post, on March 10th through the official document, it has been warned of tight-pressed measures (locking bank accounts) that will be undertaken in case of no debt payment within 10 days. Then, after that date, since we entered the period of COVID 19 tax officials, as well as all other taxpayers to the KK, have allowed tolerance in the implementation of the strained measures, until the time of release of measures by the Government of Kosovo for the movement and development of economic activities. During this week, ATK officials have re-announced KP for debt payment and measures to be taken if no payment is made. So, as an institution, we ask the PK to be correct and transparent in what it says about the case in question, and to ask for public forgiveness for the unreal media information.
Likewise, we announce that ATK has since last year reformed a complete mandatory meeting, which has now been added to the highly efficient mechanisms in tax payment. This re-organization is done at a single centre in Pristina, under which four divisions will operate, with each division responsible only for a certain phase of debt management. The goal of this reform has been initiated in light of the high level of debts generated by taxpayers, where through the Debt Collection Consolidation Project, ATK will provide new procedures and approaches to improve the early-stage debt treatment process and reduce the large debt stock.
At the end of this public response, the ATK, namely, high management, encourages all taxpayers in the country to respect legal deadlines for paying tax debts so that they do not become the target of the company of measures enforced by the mandatory collection.
