Over 120 people have been infected with COVID-19 in the last two weeks in Goettingen, including 39 children. The city has closed 13 schools and gardens, and about 100 children are in quarantine.
Tagesspiegel has written that the main blame for this is Roma families located in a complex and celebrating Bajrami. It was said by city leaders that most of those who have celebrated are of origin from the former Yugoslavia, from Kosovo, respectively, wrote DW. Many of these families still expect documentation for staying in Germany, and their attitude is not guaranteed.
But Roma families have denied the accusations and have said there is no celebration.
On Friday a member of one of the Roma families wrote in “Facebook” that there were no private Bayram celebrations. According to him, only some “have been collected in the nearest mosque. But the measure is respected in the mosque. According to him, the first patient is not from Roma families, but is of another nationality.
Even an organisation fighting discrimination against the Roma has denied that Roma families have influenced the spread of the Coronavirus. The organization has said that the person who spread the coronary by disrespecting the masses is from Africa.
Currently, all 605 people living in the housing complex are being tested. The test is still voluntary, while residents cooperated. However, the test is providing a group of 30 police officers.
