In a statement issued to Radio Free Europe, the US Embassy in Pristina says the US now awaits the resumption of dialogue with Serbia, leading to full recognition.
We welcome the government's decision to remove all measures taken against Serbia and now we expect to resume dialogue as soon as possible. Full recognition is in the best interest of Kosovo and the region to ensure stability and economic prosperity”, the US Embassy's statement given to REL said.
Earlier in the day, the Government of Kosovo voted to abolish the reciprocity measure against Serbia, which was decided by the past government on 1 April.
Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti said he has also asked international partners to ask Serbia to stop Kosovo's independence recognised campaign so that the dialogue can resume.
Dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia ceased at the end of 2018, after the establishment of a 100 per cent tax by the then Kosovo government, which was led by Ramush Haradinaj.
Later, the government led by Albin Kurti lifted the tax and imposed reciprocity. But the US and the European Union also demanded that reciprocity be removed so that dialogue can be resumed.
