The US Geological Institute announced that the power of the quake was 7.4, reviewing the original score of 7.7, while the Mexican Seismological Service announced that the earthquake had a 7.5-magnitude, AFP reports.
The quake took place in the state of Oaxaca on the Pacific Coast, with an epic in Crucecita.
Earthquakes with such power can be catastrophic. A 7.1 earthquake that struck central Mexico in 2017 killed 355 people in the capital and surrounding countries.
Mexico lies at the crossroads of three tectonic plates and is one of the most seismic areas in the world.
The capital of Siudad de Mexico is especially sensitive, at the bottom of a former lake.
