The rapporteur for Kosovo in the German Bundestag and the Council of Europe, Peter Beyer, said in a proposal to DW that accusations against KLA leaders are a positive step towards payback.

The German MEP of Union Christian Democrats, Peter Beyer, told DW that the Special Prosecutor does not accuse the KLA, but some individuals of it and urged Kosovo to support the Special Court in The Hague.

Everyone should see clearly that it's not the KLA that's in the dock here, but individuals who were in the leadership positions in the KLA at the time. KLA merits are indisputable”, he said.

This current development should be seen as a positive sign from the people of Kosovo, as it shows that the country is on the path of the functioning constitutional state. Agreement is a very important element in dealing with the past. It can only function if war crimes are identified regardless of who committed them and followed or punished in accordance with what is right. The “Special Court and its prosecutors play a crucial role here and must be strongly supported by all social and political forces in Kosovo and European partners. ”

Beyer called on the lawmakers in Kosovo not to withdraw the Special Court legal base:

“The possibility that in the parliament of the Republic of Kosovo, efforts will be made to withdraw the legal base for the Special Court. Such efforts should be challenged with any clarity in the approach. The same is true of the parliament's immunity. Anything less would be the end of the credibility of Kosovo political elites on the road to Europe. Kosovo citizens have not deserved it. Truth and truth is what people in Kosovo have been waiting for a long time. ”
