Merkel said at the weekend that she is convinced that Europe can overcome challenges, even though the coronary still poses a threat, and that measures for EU economic recovery are needed as soon as possible.
In May, Merkel and Macron proposed the creation of an early 500 billion-euro recovery fund through the mechanism for the unification of European debt, Kosovo Presses broadcasts.
The proposal was expanded by the European Commission, which proposed the creation of a 750 billion-euro fund, out of which 500 billion would be spent on grants, and 250 billion on loans.
However, it faces resistance from some countries that oppose the grant.
This plan will again be on the agenda of the European summit on 17 July and 18 July in Brussels.
In addition to future plans for the German EU presidency, the two leaders are expected to discuss many other issues, including relations with China, the United States, as well as migration policy.
Merkel welcomed the French president to the Meseberg Palace, the official residence of the German government, about 70km from Berlin, and after the talks, a press conference and a business dinner will be organised.
