European Union Special Envoy for Kosovo Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak has spoken to the media after his meeting with Kosovo President Hashim Thaci.
Lajcak has said this is his first visit to Kosovo as EU High Representative for Kosovo Dialogue Serbia and the Balkans.
The target is clear, we have serious approaches when it comes to the Balkan region and Kosovo in particular, and we want to help in a final agreement on normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia. It is also important that this process launched in 2011 under the European Union's mediation end with an agreement normalising relations between the two countries”, Lajcak said.
Furthermore, talking about his meeting with President Thaci, Lajcak said the meeting was very necessary, constructive and productive.
He says he will continue communication with Thaci as well as with other political leaders in Kosovo.
“We will continue communication with other leaders, with the prime minister, the head of the Assembly, the leaders of the political parties, and after that continue my visit to Belgrade to speak with leaders there about dialogue, and we expect the dialogue to start soon”, Lajcak said.
Asked about the active involvement of the United States in the Kosovo dialogue Serbia and the role the US will have, especially after the meeting in Washington on 27 June, Lajcak said there is close co-operation between the EU and the US.
“We're always close to the U.S. and all that has been achieved so far is achieved only because of this co-operation. This co-operation will continue.
