Montenegro has decided to close the border with Albanian, following increasing cases with COVId-19 in our country.
This decision by the Montenegrin government is made to prevent the spread of coronary to the neighbouring country.
Last week in our country, the numbers of the infected have been very high, with the record reached on Tuesday, with 82 cases in 24 hours.
Land borders with Montenegro opened on June 1st, while that closure of two is not known how long it will last.
The news has made it known to the Foreign Ministry, while closing the borders will begin tomorrow.
Ministry announcement:
The Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs reports that the Montenegrin Government's Operational Crisis Unit has decided today to review the list of countries that will be allowed to enter its territory under the fight against COVID-19.
Given the growing number of infected citizens active in our country, which currently exceeds 700 (the license previously set by Montenegrin authorities and exceeding the number 25 infected per 100,000, Montenegrin authorities have decided to close land borders with Albania and allow transit to Montenegrin territory only for citizens who present the negative testing document to COVID-19 at the border, conducted within 48 hours.
This restriction excludes travelers who have a basic function/need, such as:
health professionals, medical researchers;
The personnel engaged in transporting goods and any other transport personnel;
The diplomats, staff of international organisations, military personnel and humanitarian aid workers during their operations;
Special passenger Categors in transit;
Or for other humanitarian reasons.
This regime begins from midnight on Sunday, June 21, 2020, and is valid until a second decision by the Crisis Operations Unit in Podgorica.
