Travelers from the six Western Balkan countries -- Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Northern Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia -- will be the first citizens to have the right to travel to the Schengen Zone on 1 July, after over three months of border closure.
The European Commission has presented its recommendation to Schengen area member states and associate Schengen states to lift travel restrictions gradually depending on the set objective criteria for each country
As a result, the Commission has recommended lifting the ban on entry for citizens of the Western Balkans on 1 July, given that the situation regarding the virus in these countries is similar or better than in the EU.
The “Commission also recommends lifting travel restrictions for Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia and Serbia since July 1st, given that their epidemiological situation is similar or better than that of the EU”, explains a press release issued by the Commission, reports Indexline.
As for the rest of the citizens, no- EU / EEA and Great Britain, the Commission suggests that lifting restrictions on each specific country should be based on the epidemiological situation and the body's response. While citizens of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Northern Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia will have the right to travel to the Schengen Zone as of July 1st, without visas, Kosovo citizens will soon be able to apply for visas, as the Commission has advised the Member State to resume visa operations abroad.
