The U.S. government's top expert on infectious diseases said America cannot rely on the creation of the vaccine, however safe and effective it is.
Dr. Anthony Fauci warned that daily growth of coronary cases could probably double unless Americans take steps to bring the virus under control.
California, Texas, and many other countries have reported an increase in new cases, leading to a reevaluation of US efforts to contain pandemic.
“It is extremely important to have effective vaccines available for all,” said Dr Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, ahead of a US Senate Commission.
Fire vaccines are being developed and tested at great speed, as never before. But Dr. Fauci warned that “has no guarantee that we will have a safe and effective vaccine,” and urged Americans to join forces to curb the virus.
Dr. Fauci warned that increasing new cases in the United States, currently at around 40,000 per day, could reach 100,000 per day if people do not adhere to social distance guidelines and use masks.
“I'm very worried because it can get much worse,” he said, A report LAT.
His comments come parallel to other health officials' warnings that some Americans, especially young people, have given up security measures.
Many countries where infections are increasing are who began reopening businesses without meeting government health criteria.
There are concerns that increasing the number of infections may increase especially during this week until July 4th, on the occasion of celebrations for Independence Day, when Americans traditionally flock to beaches or picnics, as well as gather to watch fireworks.
More than 126,000 Americans have died from COVID-19, and millions have lost their jobs. The economy contracted sharply in the first quarter and is expected to mark even deeper declines for the April-June quarter.
Cases with COVIDD-19 have doubled during June in at least 10 US states, including Texas and Florida. Los Angeles, the second largest American city, has become a new epidex of pandemic.
