Today the new phase of the air distribution of vaccines against animal rage has begun.
For five days in a row, these vaccines will be distributed by aircraft across the territory of Kosovo.
This is the fifth phase of the anti-rugation campaign, as part of the regional initiative to control this disease throughout the Western Balkans and will last until 15 May.
To achieve complete immunization of foxes by rage, experts estimate that such vaccines are necessary for several years.
The Food and Veterina Agency as the beneficiary of this project is directly responsible for monitoring and evaluating the impact on reducing the risk of animal rage.
Part of this vaccination campaign are a number of planes, which, through special machines and accurate maps, will also distribute thousands of bait vaccines within this five - day period.
The vaccine against rage is being done in foxes, since these animals are the main source of this disease with fatal consequences that are transmitted to dogs and humans.
Supported by the European Union, the Food and Veterina Agency is implementing a modern procedure that guarantees safe vaccination in foxes, while the entire process of distribution of the vaccine is being conducted by air and controlled.
Through this awareness campaign, which started several days ago in public and private media, the Food and Veterina Agency has announced precise campaign dates and the field process.
This institution has repeatedly appealed that during this period or later, if rural residents find vaccines near settlements, do not touch them, open them, or give them to their animals, as they may risk their health.
The integration of this project is making the Kosovo-Cek consortium N.T. S.F.O.F. and biovette.
The duration of the project will be until October 2020, and its value is brought to about 1m euros.
