Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has held a media conference after attending the Zagreb Summit.
Thaci said that at this summit one of the main topics was the combating of the Corleone pandemic, which he said has broadcast Kosovo's unique commitment in this regard.
“As you are informed, yesterday we carried out the works of the Zagreb Summit, the leaders of EU member states, but also Balkan leaders. I want to thank the Croatian state, Croatia's prime minister for organising this summit. Express gratitude for the possibility of Kosovo being represented as an independent and sovereign state. Almost all leaders have talked about the importance of continuing the fight against the Coronavirus, expressing condolences to the victims. I also represented reality in Kosovo, which thanks to health institutions, we have a small number of victims. The focus remains today on preserving the health of our citizens”, Thaci said.
The president said that this summit has also discussed visa liberalisation, while according to him, Kosovo deserves more responsible treatment from the EU and a quick decision-making.
“against pandemic, Kosovo remains committed to its priorities, in particular the functioning of democratic institutions. I have stressed that Kosovo deserves faster and responsible treatment from the EU, in particular in terms of need and credit for the immediate decision on visa liberalisation. This delay is only clouding confidence in relation to decision-making in Brussels. In my statement I have called for EU members to move urgently on this issue. Disliberalisation is an unfair punishment for Kosovo citizens. This non-unity is linked to non-recognition of five member states. The boys have also called on these countries to recognise Kosovo's independent and sovereign state”, the president said.
The discussion at this meeting was also the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, while Thaci said the EU needs unity in this direction, but that leadership meets the US.
The next question is the EU's desire to play a role in Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. This is possible until the EU is united inside and with close co-ordination with the leading role of the United States. Kosovo is for dialogue to continue and reach a final agreement. This should be a finale with mutual recognition as independent and sovereign countries”, the president said.
In the end, according to the president, it is important that Kosovo not be excluded from the EU's enlargement policy, and the same be treated as an independent and sovereign state.
The third question is that the EU will not avoid enlargement in the Balkan states. We all need to work on restoring European confidence in the Balkans. For Kosovo it is important that we have an even more concrete EU commitment, always being treated as an independent and sovereign country. The EU cannot bring neutrals in relation to Kosovo”, the president has said in the end.
