The European Union is ready to support the reform and European efforts of neighbouring countries, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said on Wednesday, ahead of the start of the virtual Zagreb EU summit and Western Balkan countries.
The prime minister of the country leading the EU Council presidency says the European Union is ready to support the efforts of Western Balkan countries.
“Not only in the context of negotiations already under way by Serbia and Montenegro, not only in the context of the European Council's very important decision to open accession negotiations with northern Macedonia and Albania, but also as a message going to Bosnia and Herzegovina, for Croatia in particular,” noted Plenkov.
He said Croatia wants to help Bosnia and Herzegovina on the European road and support talks between Serbia and Kosovo. He added that the green light of Skopje and Tirana is the result of the “diplomatic and political commitment of Croatia and its friends and partners”.
Plenkovic stressed that the EU also financially supports the Western Balkans in the Corleone pandemic, and that the European Commission is preparing a large package of economic assistance for these countries.
Otherwise, the leaders of the 27 EU member states and six Western Balkan countries today during a video conference will confirm the European perspective of Southeast European countries.
