An American company has tested in humans an experimental vaccine against the new coronary.
Preliminary results are expected to be released in July.
The first phase of testing took place this week in Australia with volunteer patients, while the second phase will be extended to several countries with different age groups.
The biotechnology company, “Novaex”, announced that their vaccine operates through adjuvans, stimulating cell immunity.
This is thought to provide a longer-term protection against viral and bacterial infections, according to Dr. Gregory Glenn, the company's scientific leader “Novax”.
We operate by taking a prototype of genes that make up the proteins of the virus. Their superficial structure is such that it relates to human cells and injects its own genetic material and then reproduces. Our vaccine blocks the process by promoting immunity and preventing infection. ”
Tests will follow in weeks with 131 volunteers.
The company says that if the results are good, it can produce up to 100 million doses this year and 1.5 billion doses next year.
The newest experimental vaccine adds to the global race for finding an anti-coronvirus drug that has infected over 5 and a half million people and killed over 350,000 people worldwide.
