German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Pope Francescu discussed on Thursday the effects there have been on the world's pandemia and choreography, and agreed on the need to help the poorest countries, Merkel's spokesman said.
“Biseda focused on the humanitarian and political situation during the pandemic and the importance of solidarity in Europe and the world”, spokesman Stephen Seibert said through a statement.
The two were of a stance, that during the pandemic, one should particularly support the poorest countries in the world”, he added.
Merkel, has invited Pope Francis to visit Germany as soon as circumstances allow.
On May 1st, UN Secretary - General Antonio Guterres has also raised concerns about the lack of assistance to poor countries.
Guterres has said at a media conference that the international community was divided into the most important moments of the corruption fighting.
There is a split between leadership and power. We see wonderful examples of guidance, but they are not usually associated with power. And where we see power, sometimes we don't see the necessary leadership”, Guterres said.
