Furtuna Sheremetti, adviser to the incumbent Prime Minister Albin Kurti's Juridical Affairs, says they are awaiting the Constitutional Court's decision on President Hashim Thaci's decree, but on the claims of head of state that Kurti must face justice, she says there is no reason why such a thing should happen.
In an interview for KosovoPress, Sheremet stated that depending on the Constitutional Court's decision, they could return to the Venice Commission as it was left open by the latter.
“We are awaiting the decision when the decision is made we will comment, because we must see what arguments are without seeing arguments is impossible to comment as a decision. [...] We continue to stand behind our stand that elections are the only solution and we will stay behind until the Constitutional Court's decision comes out, see how it will be. I don't want to judge the decision. [...] The Venice Commission has left the door open so we can come back for comments I don't know if there's going to be a”, she stressed.
The prime minister's legal adviser in office, Albin Kurti, says that if the Constitutional Court declares the president's decree unconstitutional, then Hashim Thaci should resign from office.
The president's “President Thaci has so little expired on the president's deadline, so it is something that as long as the country goes to the election then that would be the best answer and I consider the president legally should resign if the decree is declared unconstitutional”, she said.
During yesterday's Kosovo President Hashim Thaci said the time has come for incumbent Prime Minister Albn Kurti and his group to face justice, for measures they have taken during the pandemic, and which the Constitutional Court has declared no constitutional.
This has been commented by incumbent Prime Minister Furtuna Sheremetti's legal adviser, who said there is no reason for Kurti and this government to face justice.
I consider that the Kurti Government has done an extraordinary job in managing pandemic, and we're lucky to have had this government when we were hit by pandemic, I had no desire to spend time or energy, to discuss what the president says. I consider our actions, our marathon work, in every respect is our best answer to the president's claims that Prime Minister Kurti face justice. [...] There is no reason why Mr. Kurti or the government would need to face justice”, Sheremet said.
We remember that the Constitutional Court has suspended the implementation of President Hashim Thaci's decree until May 29th, until it examines the subject sent by this party, regarding the constitutionality of the president's decision
