Fetije Hyseni, a nurse at the Infectious Clinic, was very afraid when he started dealing with people who were ill with COVID-19.

For 24 years she had not seen such fear in medical staff, patients, and family members.

When all the inhabitants were urged to stay at home, she and her colleagues had to contend with an invisible enemy.

When the coronary was presented, we, as health staff, had the news panic. It was an unknown virus, and we certainly were afraid, although we are health staffs and we face various epidemics at the clinic where I work. But we did not know the consequences and performance of the virus. We were panicking because everyone stayed home, we were on the front line. We didn't know the symptoms of patients, we didn't know what we would face,” Hyseni told Radio Free Europe.

The day that Kosovo resulted in positive with COVID-19, over 70 patients, has been the day that Fetija remembers the fear of even the anxiety of all staff at the Infectious Clinic.

The most stressful day was that, when over 70 patients resulted positive with COVID-19. It was scary. The Infectious Clinic has 102 beds. We thought if you had the chance to manage. When the work is done under stress, medical staff are also at risk. Even as a result, we have been affected by COVID-19 and by health staff. But he wanted luck, and not all were symptoms, and we managed them miraculously. But then the progression of the disease went well, although fear existed, she said.

It also mentions a challenge, a special dress against the Coronacterius, That they should have kept it all the time.

We have the dressing protocols based on the disease. Me and a colleague, we had a working protocol to take care of each other so we don't make any mistakes. This is about clothing, because it's very difficult to stay with them all day and only a small mistake we could be infected with. So we looked after each other. That's how most have practiced”, she adds.

She says that all the time they had to talk to patients because they were afraid of their health.

We have also helped you with words, giving them hope, as there has been a lot of panic on the part of patients. I can say there was psychological damage to patients. Patients have been communicators, humble, and we as staff have worked hard for them“.

When the first case died, it was painful, scary, and we didn't know the consequences. We thought we'd be dead enough. There was panic among patients, staff, family members, Hyseni said.

She says she's had to work hard because the clinic lacks staff. Only recently, she says, have 10 nurses left the clinic abroad.

However, she adds that there have also been volunteers at the Infectious Clinic who have helped you through the pandemic.

In this case, I believe people have seen how important nurses are for patients, although our work has never been valued as much as we deserved.

Nurses in Kosovo are paid for the work they do at about 400 euros a month. During the pandemic time, the Kosovo government has decided that all health staff share a amount of 300 euros for two months as a reward for the work they have done.
