Senator Richard Burr from North Carolina will leave his post as head of the Senate's Committee for Intelligence, the Republican majority leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, announced.
“Senator Burr contacted me this morning to inform me of his decision to step down as head of the intelligence committee during the time of the investigation. We agreed that this decision would be in the interest of the committee and will enter into force tomorrow morning,” read in a statement McConnell.
Burr's phone was confiscated by the FBI on Wednesday evening, when investigators showed him the arrest warrant at his Washington house amid an ongoing investigation into allegations of whether he was involved in internal information trading, writes The Guardian.
