The European Union lasted until 15 June to close the Schengen zone's internal borders, as it estimates the situation is due to the coronavirus explosion remains unstable. There is still no second announcement of external borders, while so far has been set as September's deadline. The commission has also recommended residential isolation of 14 days for European citizens to be repatriated.

The EU's Commission has recommended keeping borders closed and leaving restrictions in place until 15 June, as the situation in member states due to the coronavrus explosion remains unstable. The circulation ban was introduced for the first time in mid-March and has so far lasted once.

Excluded by this rule are EU citizens and foreigners who have permanent permission to stay in member states, as well as health personnel and other experts needed to fight pandemic, employees in transport companies and seasonal workers.

For nearly two months, the European Union's borders have been closed on a large scale.

While some member states have eased their rules against the spread of the virus, the situation in Europe and worldwide remains unstable, the Commission states.

“Measures on external borders must continue to reduce the risk of further spreading the disease through trips within the bloc. The main goal remains to restore the full freedom of movement into the Schengen area, once this is possible from the health situation,” said EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johannesburg.

But the commissioner referred only to moving within the Schengen zone, while the external borders have no announcement. So far only the directors of several large air companies have said they will open in September.

Whoever enters European Union countries or even the United Kingdom must remain in quarantine for 14 days.
