An online lecture by the Greek College, Whitty said that the level of virus reproduction, the R number, should be held below 1, which means that any infected person can expect to pass it to less than another person on average.
He said at the press conference Thursday that the number R is now believed to be between 0.6 .9 throughout the country.
Avid-19 is a very long way from ending and extinction is technically impossible for this disease.
