Infectious diseases experts in Singapore have found that the virus does not spread after the patient spends 11 days.
Researchers saw “viral charge” in 73 patients with COVID-19 to learn how infectious they are day after day.
The patients who can result in coronavirus positive after two weeks don't infect others. The virus becomes useless to spread infection. Active viral replication falls soon after the first week, and the infectious virus was not found after the second week of the disease,” says researchers.
Researchers suggested that this find help doctors decide when to get patients out of the hospital.
In the U.S., many hospitals release patients after resulting negative for the second time. Only then are these patients considered restored by COVID-19.
NCID Executive Director Leo Yee-Sin told Singapore's Strait Times newspaper: “Sciencely, I'm pretty sure there's enough evidence that the patient is no longer efficient after 11 days”.
