The amount of global carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) dropped by 17% as a result of strict measures against Coronavirus, compared to the average of 2019, according to a report presented by researchers in “Nature Climatee Change”.
According to the research team led by Corinne Le Quere at the University of East England in Great Britain, 83 million tons of CO2 were posted worldwide on April 7th because of the burning of fossil fuels and cement production. In 2019, the daily average was 100 million tons.
“in some countries, CO2 emissions dropped by as much as 26% on average during the target of anti-commercial measures”, researchers write.
“Coronavirus definitions led to drastic changes in CO2 energy consumption and emissions. However, the extreme decline is probably temporary because it was not caused by structural changes in the economy, transport or energy sector”, Le Quer explained.
