Men who have recovered from the Coronervirus must abstain from sexual intercourse so that they do not pass the virus through sperm, a new study suggests.
Patients in China who donated samples several days after the virus's symptoms had waned showed evidence of Covid-19, writes The Telegraph, broadcast news.net.
The findings have left scientists concerned that the deadly disease can be transmitted sexually. Health heads are advising people to avoid intimate relations for a certain time after their symptoms end.
In the sperm of one of the patients in the study, the Sanngqui Municipal Hospital in Henan Provinca found the virus 16 days after recovery.
“Abstensia or the use of a condom may be considered a preventative tool for these patients”, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
It is not yet known whether the presence of Avid-19 on the test affects men's reproductive ability.
