Colombian transporter Avianca, the second oldest airline in the world, presented bankruptcy due to the unpredictable unseen impact of the Devi-19”, according to a statement issued on its website Sunday, Reuters reports, broadcasts news.net.
The decision to file bankruptcy was made with the aim of “defending and preserving” operations during the ongoing pandemic.
According to the statement, Avianca directly employs 21,000 people throughout Latin America. Nearly 90% of countries where the aircraft operates are under total or partial travel restrictions, according to additional information on the Avianca website, broadcast news.
“Avica is facing the most challenging crisis in our 100-year history as we sail the effects of the COVID-19”, said Anko van der Werff, CEO of the company.
According to Van der Werff, Avianca is the second oldest airline to continue developing in the world.
