The 166 dead were recorded in England, 50 in Scotland, and 14 in Wales. Northern Ireland has not yet released the figure for Wednesday, writes “Metro UK”, Report Express.
However, that figure is preliminary, while the official number of victims will later be published by the British government when fatal cases outside hospitals, such as those that occur in the homes of the elderly, will be calculated.
The new figure was publicised after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that 181 health workers and 131 social care workers have died so far from Covid-19.
According to official government statistics, the total number of victims by Tuesday has gone to 35,341. However, the National Statistics Office's data shows that this figure may already have reached nearly 55 thousand, including suspicious cases.
Britain is the world's second largest population of victims, after the United States, and third place for the highest figure of infected, after the United States and Russia.
