Daniel Koch, who is the leader of the infectious disease unit at the Federal Public Health Office and Health Minister Alain Berset, on a television show answered viewers' questions about plans to control the coronavirus explosion in Switzerland.

Among many questions, they have answered even if there will be a second wave of infected people as well as why Swiss authorities do not recommend masks against the spread of this virus.

When will serological tests take place to determine the level of immunity to coronavrus in Switzerland?

Daniel Koch: Right now, these tests are still in the test phase. But we expect them to be available commercially very soon. We will then be able to test people to discover antibodies in their blood.

However, we do not know enough for coronavirus at this time to be absolutely sure whether immunity is temporary or permanent.

How are you planning to limit the population at the end of April? What measures will be taken first?

Alain Berset: It was a very sensitive process and we're still discussing details. But we know that the first restrictions to be lifted will not be what generate a massive movement of people or large gatherings.

Initial relief will be implemented in the sectors where it is possible to continue to practice protection measures such as adequate hygiene and social distance.

Will there be a second wave of coronavirus infections in Switzerland this autumn, as some experts predict?

Daniel Koch: We can't rule out another wave later this year, it's really hard to predict now. This depends on many factors, including how many people in Switzerland will develop immunity to coronavirus.

Masca is recommended in many countries, why not Switzerland?

Daniel Koch: In our experience, masks offer no protection for healthy people, and they should be used only by health professionals and patients. But if there is evidence that masks are really useful, we will change our recommendations according to circumstances.

Alain Berset: The mask can give a false sense of security. People may feel that because they have one, they should not keep distance from others or wash their hands often.

When a vaccine is developed, will it be mandatory in Switzerland?

Alain Berset: Swiss law does not allow us to force someone to vaccinate against their will. But we can ask that certain professionals, such as those who work in the health sector, be isolated. If they refuse, they will not be able to work in this field. We will hope to solve this problem pragmaticly, as we have always done in our country.
