He lives in Pristina, with his wife Lumniye and son Andrew. She speaks English and German.
He was the first prime minister of independent Kosovo, Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister in the new cabinet led by Isa Mustafa, who took office on 12 December 2014.
Thaci was also the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK).
On February 17th 2008, Prime Minister Hashim Thaci in the Kosovo Assembly reads Kosovo's declaration of independence, while after voting on the part of the declaration, Parliament Speaker declares Kosovo an independent and democratic state, where all MPs present later signed the Declaration of Independence.
It was established in line as political leader of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK).
Meanwhile, he also served as head of a temporary government in the end and shortly after the war in 1999.
