At the time when Kosovo is facing a fight with the Devid-19 infection, the demands of families in need of basic assistance have been increased on the Red Cross in Pristina. Over 150 calls from people seeking food and sanitation in the city and villages of Pristina are said to be accepted within the day. They say they are helping these families by distributing packages every day.
Kosovo's coronavirus situation has compounded the need for families.
Many businesses have suspended the jobs and demands of citizens living in difficult socioeconomic conditions, for food and sanitation packages, have been added.
The Secretary of the Red Cross in Pristina, Hasan Mustafa, says of Kosova Preis, that the number of calls at this centre has increased following the spread of the coronary.
Stressing that 1600 families are registered in this centre, he says that the number of people seeking assistance has increased to a large percentage since the period was spread by Covid-19.
The number of those who call on us, I can freely say around 1000 calls last week, now this same week is going on like last week. Last week, 200 and more food and sanitation packages, flour for all families we have verified and those we don't have verified”, he says.
He says most are from the town of Pristina, but also from surrounding villages.
Mustafa says that even this week they will continue to distribute aid, but the priority is those families facing basic shortages.
We have the A category that we have priority because their situation is much heavier, especially at this time of pandemic. Category A is when they don't have any income, the residential object is severely damaged, with children, private mothers, no family member works, doesn't get any socials, these cases are that we support more like Red Cross”, he says.
He shows that the most frequent demands are now for food and hygiene, not clothing.
The last few days for food and hygiene are looking for more, for clothing is not so much need at this time of pandemic why we don't have trouble wearing clothing, we have a warehouse when it's worked every day, there's clothing, but there's been a greater lack of food every time, and the greatest demand of the needy families has been food<1>, he says.
Mustafa says the shares are being carried out with volunteers and businesses and organisations that are expressing readiness to help.
Meanwhile, in these difficult pandemic times, some volunteers in Pristina have also come to his aid with hygienic packages.
