German Chancellor Angela Merkel vowed today considerable funds in the area of research on the new coronary, underlining that a possible vaccine against COVID-19 will have to be made available for all countries.
Addressing lawmakers in the German parliament ahead of a video conference among EU leaders, Merkel underlined that return to normal life worldwide would be possible only after a vaccine against coronarys was developed.
“Space is never national, science serves humanity”, Merkel stressed, calling for stronger international co-operation in efforts to develop a vaccine against COVID-19. If we find a drug or vaccine, test and test it, then this should be available and affordable for the whole world”, she stressed.
Germany approved yesterday the first clinical tests of an OVID-19 vaccine in people, conducted jointly by Turkish professor Ugur Sahin's BioNTech company and pharmaceutical giant Pfizer.
Scientists and researchers worldwide are trying to find a vaccine for the virus, which has infected over 2.6 million people worldwide and has caused more than 183,000 deaths.
