LDK does not start negotiations with AAK initiative without taking mandate from president

The Democratic League of Kosovo will begin negotiations on forming the government with the AAK, the Social Democrat Initiative and parties representing non-global communities in the Kosovo Assembly, only after it receives the mandate from the country's president. On the other side, The AAK and the Social Democrat Initiative still have no stance on whether they will be part of an LDK-led government.

Last night, LDK chairman Isa Mustafa has indicated that the General Council has given the Green Council that if it is offered the mandate for forming the government, it will do so in coalition with the AAK, the Social Democrat Initiative and communities.

The party's deputy chairman, Lutfi Haziri, for Kosovo, has indicated that they will not start negotiations with these parties without receiving the mandate from the country's president, until he stressed they have made no offer for these parties.

The “is not the time for bids, it is time for the LDK chairman, the leader of Kosovo's Democrats, to receive the mandate of the General Council to create opportunities if the constitutional spirit, the constitutional organs including the Constitutional Court, allows the creation of the new parliamentary majority as the second option. Because that's where Kurt and Vetevendosje are right. And with the very fact that we are waiting for Vetevendosje to build the new parliamentary majority despite their political stance at the moment, they still have time, they have days ahead of them to decide on the creation of this parliamentary majority. If the constitutional organs give a right eventually as the second option to LDK, then we have given the trust to Isa Mustaf as chairman and leader of ours to start talks with parties that create the new parliamentary majority with the whole principle involved. We further assess the creation of a Government from the new parliamentary majority, where the LDK will have a very positive and constructive role in coping with all political processes, including pandemic”, he said.

Haziri said that as a party, they have only one condition at this stage, which is that the LDK does not enter the coalition with the Democratic Party of Kosovo. But even the Democratic Party of Kosovo has made clear the stance that it will continue to be part of the opposition.

Meanwhile, the AAK and the Social Democrat Initiative still have no stance on whether to become part of the LDK-led government.

The head of the Social Democrat Initiative Parliamentary Group, Haxhi Shala, for Kosova Prees, said they have rejected offers from the LDK in this phase, but which points out that the decision to enter the coalition or not put party structures in place.

“S must first seize constitutional opportunities for the first party, which has the absolute right to form the government as the first party. The moment the first party is unable to form a government, there are no partners, then it is in the presidential institution if it gives the possibility to the LDK. We still have no offer as Initiatives, we have heard a statement that the LDK is ready with the Initiative and the AAK to make a coalition, but we do not have a concrete offer to discuss or say whether it is okay for us or this issue does not work. As soon as we have the offer, we will sit down with party structures and I believe that in due time we will handle it, but after taking the mandate from President”, he said.

Even the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo will wait to receive the LDK bid and then decide whether they will be part of the coalition.

AAK MP Rasim Selmanaj said they have yet to accept the offer, but if they do, then it is party leadership that she will decide on the issue.

“I don't know if we have an offer, the second one whenever we have the offer we will gather as party chairman and see what decision” will be, he said.

President Hashim Thaci, after the collapse of the Kurti government, has sent him letters to send the mandate, but Vetevendosje Movement insists on new elections after the end of the coronary pandemic.
