Germany recorded 1,478 new confirmed cases COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of cases to 159,119, the federal government's agency for disease control and prevention said Thursday, Reuters reports, broadcast news.
The death toll rose to 6,288, 173 more but still less than 202, from the previous day, according to the Robert Koch (RKI) Institute.
At the peak of the epidemic in Germany, more than 6,000 new infections were registered on a single day by RKI.
On Tuesday, RKI President Lothar Wieler urged his countrymen not to risk the results achieved in the virus's content, news broadcast.
“We want to continue to protect this success, and we can do it if we stick to certain rules,” he said.
