After that, the Democratic League of Kosovo has announced that it has decided that Avdullah Hoti is a candidate for prime minister, and that the Government is willing to make it into a coalition with the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, the Social Democrat Initiative, the New Kosovo Alliance and non-Multi minorities in the Assembly.
And for Hoti, this is the second attempt to become Kosovo's prime minister, since he, even in 2017, in parliamentary elections, was the LDK candidate for prime minister.
Regarding Hoti's nomination, analysts estimate he would face some challenges if elected prime minister.
The main challenge, according to analysts, is management of the COVID-19 pandemic, economic recovery after pandemic and dialogue with Serbia.
Valmir Ismaili from Democracy Plus has told Telegrafi that Hoti is professionally capable of leading Government.
“is expected to be the LDK candidate for prime minister. I consider Hoti professionally capable of leading government. He has distinguished himself for the good work he has done during his time as finance minister. Likewise, Hoti has never been talked about any corrupt relatives. Moreover, it is considered an acceptable figure for the majority in the LDK, but also as a collaborator with other political subjects. The new government's main challenge will be COVID-19, respectively, management of this pandemic until its completion. Then there will be economic recovery from the damage that this pandemic will suffer. On the outside, of course, it is the achievement of a final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia”, he stressed.
Ismaili added further that during this government it is necessary to have constitutional and electoral reform.
“Depending on how long this government's mandate will be, it would be necessary to have a constitutional and electoral reform as well to avoid all these uncertainties that are emerging to us from the start of the election process from now”, it said.
Regarding Hoti's nomination, Artan Demhaye, of the nongovernmental organization, spoke.
He counted some of the challenges Hoti will face as prime minister.
“I think that Hoti's first and main challenge if elected prime minister is the removal of reciprocity imposed by the Kurti Government, and simultaneously dialogue with Serbia and potentially achieving, signing and ratification of that deal”, he added.
As for internal challenges, Demhasa cited meeting the COVID-19 situation.
“on the inside side as a challenge will be confronting the COVID-19 situation, which would include meeting the unfavourable economic situation, due to huge economic losses, both in the public sector and in the private”, he said.
The challenge for Hoti, according to the analyst, will also be the justice sector.
The other “Sfide remains the justice sector, the fight against corruption and investments in the public health sector”, Demhasaj said.
Otherwise, the Kurti Government has collapsed following the no-confidence motion on March 25th. The motion was initiated by the LDK, which was supported by opposition parties. Following the motion vote, President Thaci had asked the Vetevendosje Movement to propose the new candidate for prime minister, but from this party there has been a proposal. According to the president, LVV has refused to make the new mandate proposal, so the right to form Government is given to the party that makes the numbers in the Assembly.
