Turkey tears down Syria plane, Russian response comes

Turkey's Defence Ministry said a Syrian L-39 aircraft on Idlib has crashed.

“As part of the successful spring source operation” (in Idlib) a military plane of the Syrian regime L-39,” said the Turkish military.

Syrian state television confirmed the information. However, all eyes have turned to Moscow as the regime of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad is in coalition with Russia.

Because of the situation in Idlib, Turkish and Russian leaders have been placed “on thin ice” as the conflict threatens to escalate at any moment. That is precisely why Turkey's President Recep Tayip Erdogan travels to Moscow this week to try to “shake the situation” with Vladimir Putin.

On Sunday, Ankara launched a new military operation to northern Syria “Spring Source”.

Kremlin, meanwhile, said Moscow and Ankara were able to reduce the risk of armed conflict in Idlib.

“We hope to reduce the risk as the armies of the two countries maintain close contacts,” said Russian presidency spokesman Dmitry Peskov, responding to reporters about the possibility of an armed confrontation between Russia and Turkey in Idlib.

Turkey has deployed thousands of troops in support of rebel forces in Idlib, but this has not halted the progress of Syrian forces.

Turkey, in a protest of the escalation of the conflict in Syria, has opened its western borders for thousands of refugees seeking to reach the EU. Since then, thousands of people have tried to cross the border with Greece, but Greek authorities have not allowed themselves to cross their well-protected border line.
