At a time when the United States is facing the situation created as a result of the coronavirus explosion and as it prepares for the start of its presidential campaign, President Donald Trump has announced a significant change of personnel to the White House.
Lawmaker Mark Meadows will be the new staff chief, replacing Mick Mulvaney, who has been head of staff at the White House for more than a year.
The president announced the change Friday on Twitter.
I've known Mark a long time. Our relationship is very good”, the president wrote.
I want to thank the acting staff chief, Mick Mulvaney, who served the administration very well. He would be tasked with tasking US special envoy for Northern Ireland”, he wrote further.
Mr. Meadows announced earlier this year that he would withdraw from Congress at the end of his term. He will be the fourth chief of Trump staff in just over three years.
Mr. Mulvaney, a former South Carolina lawmaker, is remembered primarily for his statement during a press conference that “quid pro quo” a Latin expression meaning offering a favor in exchange for another is common in foreign policy.
That statement, however, was in sharp contrast to what the president said, who has claimed he was never involved in any agreement of the type “quid pro quo” with Ukraine.
