A court had ordered his imprisonment for ten months, but Erdogan, then Istanbul's chairman, had served only four months in prison from March 24th to July 27, 1999.
After his release from prison, the former number one of Turkey's largest cities, which later became the country's prime minister, before being elected president, lived three months in a Albanian town.
