According to a recent study by Japanese scientists, the power of mushrooms to combat cancer is considerable.
While the study did not suggest a mechanism, their theory says that mushrooms contain a component that limits the male hormone that promotes prostate cancer growth.
They studied more than 36,000 men, aged between 40 and 79, over the 13 years it took them for research. And eating them once or twice a week reduced the risk by 8 percent, researchers said.
But those who ate mushrooms three times a week reduced their risk by 17 percent.
The effect was especially pronounced on men aged 50 or older, and on those with a relatively low consumption of fruits and vegetables, as well as high meat and milk consumption.
Study participants who consumed mushrooms tended to be older, had a family history of cancer, spent more time walking, and had greater meat consumption, vegetables, fruit and milk products, the iconic writes, broadcasts Kosovo Clan.
They were also less likely to be current smokers.
Prostate cancer ranks as the second most common cancer and the fifth cause of cancer deaths in males!
