Chinese President Xi Jinping has visited the town of zero. Wuhan for the first time since the birth of the killer coronary in January, in a clear sign that the country already believes it has brought the epidemic under control.
The timing of Xi's visit shows that China is close to declaring victory over the health crisis, which killed at least 3,166 in the country and 4,062 worldwide.
Xi visited today the 1,000-bedered hospital built in 10 days for the war on the epidemic, before going to a local community with residents under quarantine.
His visit comes as authorities in Vuhan have closed 14 temporary hospitals, dubbed éfang tango, converted by sports and exhibition halls, which treated about 12,000 patients.
Development also comes after the unprecedented quarantine of 11 million people in the central province of Hubei, which appears to have yielded results with a significant decline in new infections in recent weeks.
Already more than 100 other countries are fighting the epidemic.
