Many Albanians still seek to find salvation as asylumrs.
Even for 2019, in proportion to the population, Albania has marked the highest number of asylum seekers, thus ranked first with 59 applications for every 10,000 people, according to data from the European Asian Office (EASO), processed in relation to population. He even leaves behind with a considerable margin, such as Syria or Afghanistan, broadcast the Monitor.
Monitor made estimates in relation to population to have comparable data among states, where for the next few consecutive year, small Albania results first in the world for applications in proportion to the population.
According to data from the European Asian Support Office, even as a number of applications of absolute value, Albania ranks in the 10 main countries of the origin of asylum seekers.
In relation to the population, by a marked margin, Syrians rank in second place, who reportedly registered 39 applications for every 10,000 people, or about 20 applications less than Albanians.
In second place are Afghans, where for every 10,000 inhabitants the number of applications was 17, followed by Venezuela with 14 applications, Iraq and Colombia, with 9 and 7 applications for every 10,000 residents respectively.
Among the top 10 countries of origin Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and Nigeria have a lower number of applications in proportion to the population. So Turks and Iranians had a 3-member application rate of 10,000, followed by Pakistanis and Nigerians with 1 applications.
Applications from Albania rose again in 2019
The European Asian Office's data (EASO) revealed that in 2019, asylum applications from Albania were 22.9 thousand, with a slight increase of 2% in proportion to the previous year, returning to the trend after four years in a row when the number of asylum seekers was declining.
About 88% of the applications were for the first time, while the rest were repeated applications. The highest number of asylum applications was in March, September and October, when it exceeded 2,000 a month.
The EASO data shows that there are a total of about 150,000 cases pending. Generally, over 90% of decisions for the first time made for Albanian asylumers are negative, as Albania is considered a safe country.
Historical data (see graph) shows that since 2013, there has been an increase in asylum applications, peaked in 2015, with about 68 thousand and then, although it came down, still remained the highest of other European states that are not part of the EU.
In total, as of 2013, there are about 200,000 people who have sought asylum in one of the EU countries.
