On March 4th 1981, Kosovo students staged a protest in Pristina for better conditions at their union, and this protest was the spark of the demonstration organised by students on March 11, 1981.
As a result of the student demonstrations came gatherings known as “The workers' demonstrates”, which required the release of imprisoned students.

The entire population demonstrations of March and April 1981 marked the beginning of the crucial turn of the definition of the Albanians captive from the former Yugoslavia.
