Water reductions and outages are warned for those who owe over 100 euros

The huge drought that engulfed the country has caused the water level at Lake Batislava and Badoci to drop by several meters. The fall from the Pristina Aqua is estimated to be a lack of rain and snowfall. Regional Waters chief executive Pristina head Ilir Abdullahu in one [...]

Regional Waters chief executive chief Pristina Ilir Abdullahu in an interview for KosovaPress, says Batlava Lake and Badoc's Lake have marked a drop in water level by 10m from the maximum level.

Abdullahu said that falling water on both lakes is due to failure during 2019, and January of this year, but with a climate change that would result in rainfall, lakes are expected to stabilise and have rising water from the current level.

And in January of this year, we have a drop in the level of two artificial lakes in Batlava and Badoc. Somewhere falling is -10 meters from the maximum level and there is a decline which now needs to be monitored because even climate conditions are favourable in these days, and we hope that together we will expect to expect some climate change and to have rainfall in the current period that is like springtime, then I believe it will stabilize lakes and at least rise from the current level as they are”, he said.

According to him, the current situation in the lakes is not alarming but does not rule out the possibility that there will later be escalation of the situation with drinking water supply.

“The alarming situation if this situation continues may occur in a following period. At present, the situation is on monitoring and our appeals are for drinking water to be stored and consumed only for needs which are dedicated jointly to meeting this situation. Now, at this point, alarmingly while we're managing it, so now we have a supply of Weiman, it's a balance of conduct. But right now we need to be careful in use, and possibly the one where the water can be stored, and we have to do our best in homes to keep our drinking water safe for the reason that any care we use will have a length, a stable supply, and no trouble. On the contrary, if this situation continues, then the situation can go towards emergency situations because these levels are dependent on snow and rain rains, snow and rain, we don't have, we don't have, and during 2019 we've had rainfall below the average” said Abdullah.

According to Abdullah, there will be reductions only during midnight, when demand for water is smaller.

“in rural or lower areas is likely to become reductions. They're going to take place at midnight when demand drops, but then it could be if climate change continues on this trend, then there's going to be reductions during the day, we're going to have a supply of interruptions, a supply where in 24 hours there will be periods where people can have no water. This is obviously due to the current situation that lakes are. If the rainfall starts and if we have an increase of levels, then I believe reductions will be minimal” he added.

As far as the decision is made to disable for all consumers who owe over 100 euros to the Aqua, Abdullah said they would take steps. Moreover, he adds that the problem they face since 2000 is misuse of drinking water.

I have to say that consumers who are in debt, who probably with two years or even decades who haven't paid, those consumers should definitely take steps that we don't want, but it forces us because the water is a company that offers the first major product for life and we have to do what we have to do and to do what we have. When we're in commitment, what's most disturbing is the situation of abuses that happen from 2000 on we're facing a high degree of abuse when people are going to have water during the May-to-tast period, a lot of water has been used for other needs which are not dedicated to water, construction ... and therefore there seems to be no awareness of the level that we should all have when it's water”, he came.

Abdullah calls for mobilization of all citizens for water conservation at any time, as the only way to have stability, long water, and water reductions.
