The US continues to be strongly committed to the Western Balkans and encouraged by developments between Serbia and Kosovo.
So said US Assistant Secretary of State Philip Reeker at the National Day of Serbia at the Library of Congress in Washington, reports The Voice of America in Sebe.
The State Department senior official, in charge of the Balkans, spoke of lowering and boosting Serbia- USA. Throughout history, he stressed that his country will stay close to Serbia as partner and friend, as it meets its goals of EU membership and implementation of reform.
“The US praises partnership with Serbia and shares the vision of a democratic Serbia with a developed economy in peace with its neighbours and fully integrated with Europe. The normalisation of relations with Kosovo is important for achieving all these goals”.
“We are encouraged that Serbia and Kosovo recently have signed a letter aimed at restarting flights between Belgrade and Pristina, to ensure that borders are connected but not shared. This is a practical act that will ensure investment, tourism, trade and human ties. Railway transport is also under reconstruction. Like I told Rick Green you have planes, trains, what else?
He noted that America remains strongly committed to the region.
When Ambassador Richard Green was appointed Special Envoy of the White House and my Deputy Matthew Palmer as Special Envoy of the Secretary of State, we showed once again that this was a priority for American diplomacy”, Reeker added, broadcasts Kosovo.
