Kosovo Police General Director Rashit Qalaj said that media reports saying he has made secret agreements with Albania and has given them the tear gas with which protesters were attacked there are part of the campaign against him. He at KTV's Rubik has said the agreement has been in co-operation with the Ministry of Interior and Foreign Affairs of Kosovo.
“In the media has spoken that it was Rashit Qalaj's secret agreement with Albania police, but for the sake of clarifying public opinion let me inform you that Kosovo Police have agreements with many police in the world, we have 93 agreements with 19 states and we have agreements with international security institutions. With Albania we co-operate on daily bases for a very long time. Every serious incident in Kosovo or Albania has co-operation. These criticisms have nothing to do with the deal, but they've been campaigning at my address since the transition of power is taking place. I want to inform you that the realisation of the deal has been procedurally okay”, he said.
He says the deal was usually okay.
The colleagues from Albania Police have contacted the Interior Ministry to borrow 500 gas grenades in a short period of time. Interior Minister Ekrem Mustafa has sent the letter to Foreign Minister Behgjet Pacolli, then that letter has come to us, we have considered. The legal office has examined it on the table and said the agreement is in order and makes it signed”, he said.
He says they have also contacted the tear gas producer through the French Embassy, and they say they can send them.
Qalaj says that gas has been bought for the needs of the Kosovo Police.
He says he does not know whether they were used in opposition protests in Albania.
