Malaysia's prime minister resigns

Malaysia's prime minister, 94-year-old Mahathir Mohamad, has resigned to the king.

Mahathir's resignation comes amid rumors that he could create a new coalition without his appointed successor, Antar Ibrahim.

The oldest prime minister in the world came to power in 2018.

In a shocking victory, he brought down then Prime Minister Najib Razak, who has been linked to a multibillion-dollar scandal involving a government fund.

The prime minister's office said the letter of resignation was delivered at 1: 00 p.m. with the local time (05:00 GMT). No other details were included in the statement, the BBC reports, broadcasts Klan Kosova.

It is not clear who will be the next prime minister or whether new elections will be called.
