At least 11 people have been killed including the suspect and others seriously injured after two shots fired at the Sisha bars in the German town of Hanau, according to local police.
Several other persons were also injured after an armed man opened fire at 10:00 Wednesday, police said.
The suspect was later found dead in his home, along with the body of a second person, according to German authorities.
It seems there were no other authors, they added, and said the investigation was under way.
The motive for the attack is unclear.
The Bild newspaper reported that the suspect was a German citizen with permission for firearms, and that ammunition magazines and weapons were found in his car.
A major hunt was launched for the author of crime involving dozens of armed police and a helicopter standing high over the town of the 25km traveler east of Frankfurt.
