Six fires near New Region South Wales are spreading uncontrolledly, officials announced, while meteorologists warned hot and windy weather over the weekend, adding to the risk of spreading flames.
Since September last year, fires in the remote country have killed at least 33 people, thousands of homes have been destroyed, and more than 11 million hectares of land have been burned.
The problem we have with fires is that they themselves are defining weather conditions and along with the wind is strengthening the intensity of the flames”, said Emergency Services Commissioner Georgeina Whelan.
About 60 firebeds are continuing to be active in New Region South Wales, and six of them are out of control.
