The European Commission today has had to apologise once again for comments by European diplomacy chief Josep Borrell, who questioned young people's commitment to combat climate change, calling it “Greta syndrome”
Borrell, in Brussels last Wednesday, has said he doubted the young people's true commitment to the fight against climate change and asked whether they were really willing to change their lifestyle to help miners and other most endangered groups of workers affected by the carbon dioxide show.
It's okay to protest climate change until you are asked to pay that contribution,” said Borrell, referring to this attitude as “Greta syndrome” , referring to Swedish activist Greta Thurberg (17).
Borrell apologised on Saturday for his stance, but due to numerous criticisms she received through social media, EC spokeswoman Dana Spinant reiterated Borrell's pardon and described his views as inappropriate.
She added that the EC supports young activists engaged in reducing the impact of climate change.
