A new study has found that consumption of nuts fights aging. Researchers from Spain and California found that eating nuts from healthy adults had little effect on their function, while the biggest effect was on older adults who smoke.
The study included approximately 640 elderly people, with the experimental group that consumed nuts every day for two years.
The gold contains omega-3 fatty acids and polyphenole, which, according to previous findings, combat oxidative stress and inflammation, factors responsible for the decline of cognitive function.
Joan Sabane, professor of nutrition and epidemiology at University School of Public Health Loma Linda, was the first to find a drop in cholesterol in the blood from nut consumption.
